About the book
This book is essentially a road trip story for children, with an educational anti-bullying theme that is present in today's current school climate where bullying exists not only in the schoolyard, but it has also spilled onto the internet, which has been coined as 'cyber bullying.' it is a subject that needs to be addressed, so as a concerned grandparent I wrote an outback story using for the main character an adventurous kangaroo and his cheeky sidekick Whitey Cockatoo. It is hoped that this book and potential cartoon show can help curb the bullying problem and show the effects that bullying can have. Stamping out bullying is very possible and a feasible reality, by using relatable iconic Australian animals that connect with not just Australian school children aged between eight and twelve, but also resonate in schools and children the world over. The book has already received interest and success in a short amount of time in Canada, Thailand and the Philippines where this book is being read by school children in some schools already.
The outline of the story is that Bundy the kangaroo and his best mate Whitey Cockatoo go on an adventure to find a human that lives along way outside the safety of their home valley. As the day draws to an end they find refuge from a storm in a bat cave and that's where the first lesson on not to be a bully comes into the story. Next morning they set off and meet numerous other friendly animals (and not so friendly characters) learning valuable lessons on behaviour along the way. These two characters complement each others flaws. This book is an important book in children's literature, combing the two elements of engaging story telling: well rounded cute and cuddle characters with underlying morals & themes which the author Kenneth Hughes has done seamlessly. This book is a must for every school and library world wide.
